DWIGHT MAN CHARGED IN HUNTSVILLE ASSAULT LAST NIGHT

HUNTSVILLE A Dwight man has been charged after an assault uptown here last night.

Police say that on Wednesday Dec. 23, at 8:35 p.m., a male was assaulted while in the parking lot of the Metro Supermarket located at 70 King William St.

The male victim in this assault did not require medical attention.

Officers located and arrested 39-year-old male Abel Merrick, charging him with assault.

During the arrest police found him in possession of substances believed to be fentanyl.

Merrick is charged with:

Assault level 1 contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code.

And Possession of a Schedule 1 substance-opioid contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act.

Merrick was released to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Huntsville Feb. 3, 2021.
