PARRY SOUND-MUSKOKA — COVID’s cost in lives lost and families affected is filtering down to governments and NGOs coping with extra expenses.
To help, today MPP Norman Miller announced on behalf of the government $407,600 in additional social services relief funding for Parry Sound and Muskoka.
The District of Muskoka will receive $246,200 and the Parry Sound District Social Services Administration Board (DSSAB) will receive $161,400.
Miller’s release Friday afternoon Dec. 11 says the discretionary funding can be used to improve the delivery of critical services, protect homeless shelter staff and residents, renovate and purchase shelter facilities, add to rent banks, create longer-term housing solutions and support plans to prepare for potential future outbreaks and/or emergencies.
“We know that COVID-19 has highlighted the importance of having a place to call home, and this additional funding will help provide safe and secure housing for those in need in our communities,” he said.
Ontario is allocating an additional $120 million across the province to help municipalities and Indigenous community partners protect vulnerable people during COVID-19. This investment builds upon the second phase of social services relief funding announced this fall.
The money is part of the government’s $510 million investment through the Social Services Relief Fund to help the health and safety of vulnerable people, says the province.
