POLICE SWOOP DOWN ON HUGE POT PLANT FACTORY FARM

KAWARTHA LAKES — Cannabis may be as common as weeds in summer.

And the days of local crops coming up for fall harvest now in back 40s this time of year may be reduced, but police are still on the hunt.

Because without a Health Canada licence, growing large farms of cannabis is still illegal.

An investigation led by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) from the City of Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton detachments has led to the seizure of over 2,000 cannabis plants in a grow-op greenhouse that rivals legal commercial factories.

Police say that yesterday, Sept. 30, with the assistance of the Central Region Emergency Response team and Canine Unit, a Cannabis Act warrant was executed at a rural property between Fenelon Falls and Bobcaygeon.

The property was being operated outside of the Health Canada regulations and six individuals were detained at the property.

No arrests or charges have been laid so far, police said in their release today, Oct. 1, 2020.

The investigation is continuing.
