MUSKOKA — Good and bad news to end the week in Simcoe and Muskoka.
Nine new COVID cases, but one new death since yesterday.
Again their were none in Muskoka today.
Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reports today 2 people each in Barrie, Bradford-West Gwillimbury and New Tecumseth; and 1 each in Orillia, Penetanguishene and Tay Township.
Two people under age 18, in Barrie and New Tecumseth, have the coronavirus as of Friday, Oct. 30.
On Thursday the health unit reported 26 cases.
Five people in the region remain in hospital and the pandemic’s running total is 1,356.
Today’s mixed news comes as Ontario reports 896 cases and Quebec 952, which is down respectively from 934 and 1,030 a day ago.
Manitoba had another record day yesterday with 193 cases, bringing to 4,894 the number of Manitobans positive.
Today they announced 480, but that includes a number more from the past few days due to a data error.
They also announced major restrictions.
In the U.S. almost 9 million people have or had COVID-19 and about 230,000 people have died just four days before American elections Nov. 3.
And U.S. police forces are training for all eventualities Tuesday night and in the day after.
Walmarts there have also pulled all guns from their open public shelves for the time-being. Customers must now ask a salesperson for help if they want to buy a weapon.
Meanwhile, Canada’s chief public health official Dr. Theresa Tam called today for all Canadians to reduce their contact — by at least 25 per cent.
Otherwise she says modelling shows potential for further growth.
