BRACEBRIDGE GETS ONE MORE CASE; TWO MOVED TO MUSKOKA LAKES

MUSKOKA — COVID’s spread is widening again with another local case in the north end of the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit’s (SMDHU) reporting area.

A woman in Bracebridge is included in today’s shortened list (four) of cases announced by the health unit.

And two people previously reported testing positive for the coronavirus in Bracebridge have been re-assigned to Muskoka Lakes Township after further investigation by SMDHU.

As for the woman in Bracebridge, she is said to be aged 45-64 and part of an institutional outbreak.

The health unit would say no more, as per usual.

But a case was reported at the Bracebridge hospital this week by the Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare.

That of a staff member.

Institutional outbreaks are normally reported early on by the facility affected.

However, the Friday Sept. 25 case could also relate to testing of staff at The Pines District of Muskoka retirement home.

They said yesterday that 80 per cent of staff results were pending in latest testing from last week.

Other long-term care homes in Muskoka are also under similar reporting orders from the province.

The three other latest cases are an 18-34-aged male from Barrie (close contact), a 45-64 female also from Barrie (close contact) and an 18-34 male from New Tecumseh (under investigation).

Also Friday, Ontario reported 409 new cases and announced new restrictions that will end the sale of alcohol in restaurants and bars at 11 p.m.

It’s one up and two down for Bracebridge following today’s COVID accounting.
