CITIZEN COMPLAINTS LEAD TO PAIR OF IMPAIRED CHARGE

HUNTSVILLE — A couple of impaired driving charges on the weekend were the result of citizen complaints to police.

On Friday, Aug. 21 just after 1 a.m., the OPP received a report of a car driven in a dangerous manner downtown Huntsville.

Officers located the car within minutes parked in front a business on Cann Street.

Police say they detected an odour of alcohol on the driver and decided driver Mark McAughey had been drinking.

McAughey, 57, of Huntsville, was charged with:

–  Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration 80 plus, contrary to

section 320.14 (1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

– Operation while impaired, contrary to section 320.14 (1) (a) of the Criminal

Code.

– Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, contrary to section 320.13(1) of the

Criminal Code.

McAughey was released to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Huntsville, Oct. 14, 2020.

On Saturday, Aug. 22, at 4 p.m., a 911 call reported vandalism and an impaired driving complaint.

The vandalism was to signs located at a private beach in the area of Ski Club Road.

The lone male allegedly involved in the vandalism was said to have driven off from the beach and was thought to have been drinking, said police in a report Tuesday morning.

Police quickly found the car on Hwy. 60, stopping it near Szawlowski Drive.

They said they detected an odour of alcohol on the driver and that Igor Potapov had been drinking.

Upon further investigation, Potapov, 59, of Vaughan, was charged with: Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration 80 plus, contrary to section 320.14 (1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

And Mischief-destroys or damages property, contrary to section 430 (1) (a) of the Criminal Code.

Potapov was released to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Huntsville Oct. 21, 2020.
