The Town of Gravenhurst announced today, April 8, that the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the necessary, but unfortunate, cancellation of various spring/summer programs it offers at this time of year.
They include for the rest of the year:
Spring Tree & Shrub Sale Program
Memorials & Dedications Program (i.e. bench and tree donations)
Community Garden Program
CURTAINS FOR FINE FILMS SEASON
GRAVENHURST — The local alt-films series is calling it a wrap for the 2019-20 season.
In a release, it says it’s “the responsible thing to do.”
“The executive feels very sad and disappointed to have to make this decision, but we need to do our part to follow the physical distancing guidelines being laid out by the Health authorities and our governments. “
“We all want to express our deepest thanks to you who have been such loyal supporters of film and of Fine Films over this past year and previous years.
“FYI our TIFF Film Circuit film providers are shutting down their offices, as well as closing the TIFF Bell Lightbox Theatre in Toronto, until July 1st.
Individual ticket holders will have their tickets for Pain and Glory honoured if they proceed in September.
To season’s pass holders, they will honour your pass in the 2020-2021 season and will offer you a top-up price to extend the pass for the entire year. Details on this to come in the summer.

In addition, they add, as many of you have probably discovered, many artists and other professions, have gone online to keep us entertained and active in our own livingrooms. There have been concerts, book readings and book clubs, theatre productions, webinars and teachins, dance and yoga lessons, sing-alongs and choir practises offered online.
They urge you support these folks in any way you can.
TIFF has recently launched Stay-at-Home Cinema, streaming on Crave. Andrew Lloyd Webber has just released films of his musicals for viewing. You also may want to check out the Canadian documentary, animation and fiction films available on the National Film Board of Canada website at nfb.ca
ESSENTIAL CONSTRUCTION SERVICES
HUNTSVILLE/LAKE OF BAYS — Town officials here say that in response to the April 3 provincial update of essential services, they have have issued a letter to the building industry to provide clarity on what services will still be available during this emergency.
The provincial list included revisions to construction with specific allowances. The joint letter to the industry can be viewed on Huntsville.ca.
They say it is important to note that building services staff are not responsible for confirming what workplaces are essential and will continue to communicate how services will be offered during this emergency.

WAR AMPS FRAUD CALLS SCAM
OTTAWA — The War Amps says it has received reports of Ontarians being contacted by phone by a caller seeking donations or offering services.
The association reminds the public it does not solicit in any manner by phone or door-to-door, and that such contacts are not legitimate. Anyone receiving a contact of this kind is asked to advise The War Amps at 1 800 250-3030.
