UPDATE: MUSKOKA MAN’S DEATH NOW LINKED TO COVID-19

MUSKOKA — Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott confirmed today that a 77-year-old Muskoka man is the first person with COVID-19 to die in the province.
Elliott said the man had the coronavirus, but she said they are not sure whether he orginated it or he later came in contact with someone else who had it.

Early reports Tuesday said a senior leader in the province’s healthcare community said: “We had the first death now in Muskoka, a 70-year-old man.” The province now says he was aged 77.
The original source said: “I don’t know if it was last night or today, but we had the first death.”
There is still no news update yet today on these widespread reports from the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU).
This follows news from the SMDHU Monday of a third case, including the 70-year-old, who came in contact with a person with a confirmed case.

The news was also not reported in the latest morning briefing from the province, when Premier Doug Ford issued an Ontario state of emergency.
The province said that eight new cases had been confirmed, mostly in the Hamilton area.
Ontario now has 180 confirmed cases.
