17-YEAR-OLD DRIVER CAUGHT DOING 200 IN 90-ZONE

ORILLIA Staying safe on the roads is a challenge the public and police are finding more of lately.

Just this week provincial police in Orillia charged three people with stunt driving on the roads they patrol.

Yesterday, March 9, they charged a 17-year-old Orillia male with stunt driving after he was caught speeding 200 km/h in a posted 90-zone.

Last Thursday, March 5, at 10:30 a.m. police charged a 30-year-old Richmond Hill man with stunt driving for going 173 km/h in 100-zone.

The following day, March 6, at 11:20 p.m. on Hwy. 11 they charged another Orillia man, aged 20, with stunt driving.

He was caught going twice as fast as the speed limit.

Police stopped him for being 98 km/h over the 90 km/h Highway 11.

All drivers were released by way of a part 3 summons and had their car impounded and licence suspended for 7 days.

Police say going above the speed limit increases your risk of a collision and that braking times and stopping distances are greatly reduced thereby making it more difficult to stop when you need to.

Adding in environmental factors such as weather, road conditions, other drivers or other unanticipated hazards can be a recipe for disaster.

They ask that you please do your part to keep the roads safe by obeying the posted speed limits.
