BIOUVAC MAKES A LOTS OF NOISE AND NEWS IN PORT CARLING

PORT CARLING — What was all that noise here at James Bartleman Island the other week?

And who were those Red Coats crossing the bridge at the locks linking the Muskoka and Rosseau Lakes?

It was a Biouvac — military encampment at the Muskoka Lakes Museum Saturday, July 27.

Who’s best dressed for summer at the Port Carling locks – the curious Bracebridge Bear on the left or the Bivouac re-enactors? For more on the latter, see their great Instagram photos below. (Mark Clairmont | MuskokaTODAY.com photo)

And those sounds heard up and down the Port’s main street, skimming the lake surface, and richocheting off cottage roofs, were musket and cannon fire.

You couldn’t miss it if you within earshot — more than a kilometre and more away.

It was part of the great little museum’s fun summer programs, which in this case involved playing host to a Bivouac, which showcases exciting stories of Canada’s military history.

This time the War of 1812.

Live re-enactors in full military costume over-ran the island attraction all day with cannon and musket volley demonstrations and the opportunity to interact with the live
re-enactors.

It was a great all-ages event on a glorious afternoon.
