Lock It Or Lose It good advice from OPP

ORILLIA The Orillia detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding motorists and passengers to Lock It or Lose It.

By taking a few simple precautions such as always locking your vehicle doors and leaving valuables out of sight, you can help protect your vehicle and its contents from theft this holiday season.

  • Never leave a running vehicle unattended;
  • Lock your doors;
  • Roll up your windows;
  • Keep valuables out of sight;
  • Pocket your keys;
  • Always park in a well-lit area.

Motorists are also urged not to keep personal documents such as vehicle ownership, insurance documents, credit card invoices, or other documents containing personal information in their vehicles. Identity thieves are looking for such documents so they can assume identities, secure credit card accounts, lease vehicles for export, and even take out a mortgage against victims’ properties without their knowledge.

Police from the Orillia OPP detachment are placing flyers on vehciles around town to remind them to Lock It Or Lose It.
