Clement named to Tory shadow cabinet to cover justice

OTTAWA Friday finds Tory MP Tony Clement with a new position within the Official Opposition party and in the lead up to the fall session of Parliament.

Tony Clement will be responsible for following the justice department.

Andrew Scheer, Leader of the Conservative Party, named Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Tony Clement the new Shadow Minister for Justice.

Clement had previously served as Shadow Minister of Public Services and Procurement.

“I want to thank our Leader for placing his confidence in me as Shadow Minister for Justice.

“It is a significant portfolio and I pledge to stand up for Canadians in holding the (Justin) Trudeau Liberals to account.

“Conservatives have a long and strong history of standing up for victims of crime and keeping our communities safe. I will continue to stand up for these principles,” said Clement, who added he is also thinking today of his late step father, John Clement, who served as Attorney General of Ontario.

The new role for Clement was one of several made today by Scheer. The complete list of changes is listed below:

SCHEER ANNOUNCES CHANGES TO SHADOW CABINET

“Our Conservative team is focused squarely on holding the Liberals to account and presenting Canadians with a clear alternative to Justin Trudeau,” Scheer said.

“The changes to Shadow Cabinet I announce today reflect the growing strength of our team and our commitment to helping Canadians not only get by, but get ahead.”
The changes will see two MPs added to Shadow Cabinet and 10 others with new Shadow Cabinet roles.

The changes are as follows:
New to Shadow Cabinet:

Stephanie Kusie, MP for Calgary-Midnapore, is named Shadow Minister of Democratic Institutions

Richard Martel, MP for Chicoutimi-Le Fjord, is named Associate Shadow Minister of National Defence

New roles in Shadow Cabinet:

Dan Albas, MP for Central Okanaga-Similkameen-Nicola and current Shadow Minister of Small Business, is named Shadow Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Internal Trade

John Barlow, MP for Foothills and current Associate Shadow Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, is named Shadow Minister of Employment, Workforce Development, and Labour

Hon. Steven Blaney, MP for Bellechasse-Les-Etchemins-Lévis and current Shadow Minister of Employment, Workforce Development, and Labour, is named Shadow Minister of Canadian Heritage, Official Languages, and La Francophonie

Hon. Michael Chong, MP for Wellington-Halton Hills and current Shadow Minister of Infrastructure, Communities, and Urban Affairs, is named Shadow Minister for Science

Matt Jeneroux, MP for Edmonton-Riverbend and current Shadow Minister of Innovation, Science, and Economic Development, is named Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Communities, and Urban Affairs

Hon. Rob Nicholson, MP for Niagara Falls and current Shadow Minister of Justice, is named Shadow Minister of Public Services and Procurement

Pierre Paul-Hus, MP for Charlesbourg-Haute Saint Charles and current Shadow Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, adds Border Security to his file

Blake Richards, MP for Banff-Airdrie and current Shadow Minister for Democratic Institutions, is named Shadow Minister for Small Business, Export Promotion, and Tourism
