Fake US$50 bills passed in Gravenhurst

GRAVENHURST — Think all those people walking around and shopping this summer are nice?

Several fake US$50 bills have been passed in Gravenhurst the past few days, along with other fake US currency, say police.

Well, several merchants here are out more than $50 after a customer passed a phony US$50 bills.

Provincial police are investigating several incidents of counterfeit U.S. currency, US$50 bills, which were passed in the Gravenhurst area since Sunday, July 29.

Police are recommending that business owners and staff members exercise caution when accepting currency and refer to appropriate guidelines to determine authenticity.
