OELC celebrates 70 years of student leadership

LONGFORD MILLS —The Ontario Educational Leadership Centre (OELC) here, off Rama Road, is celebrating its 70th anniversary Wednesday July 4.

The Ontario Education Leadership Camp is celebrating 70 years on July 4.

They are a local not-for-profit educational centre, which serves more than 2,000 students in Ontario each year.

In honour of this anniversary they are hosting an event where 89-year-old alumnus Alex Saunders from their first course in 1948 is returning to OELC.

He will speak to young leaders.

In July of 1948, Saunders attended the first course at the OELC in Longford Mills.

Seventy 70 years later,  he is returning and will share his life-changing experience with today’s youth.

During his visit he will speak about the impact of his formative time at OELC, and his attributed success in areas such as the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and the Canadian Football League.

Saunders is just one of thousands of Ontarians who have attended OELC over the past 70 years to develop their leadership potential.

Each of our 16 unique leadership courses focuses on engaging and educating youth to maximize their potential as leaders, encouraging them to become responsible and participating citizens in their schools, communities and beyond. Whether it is through the arts, athletics, school governance or global issues, our courses help over 2,000 Ontario youth every year get in touch with their leader within.
