Brown Street water, sewer repairs

GRAVENHURST — Residents and drivers from West Muskoka who take a short cut up Bay Street heading north are reminded that the lower Brown Street hill will undergo an almost year-long water and sewer work starting today.

The back hill bypass on Brown Street through Gravenhurst will be under repair the next year for water and sewer replacement work.

Orange cones are out along the sides of Brown and Greavette Streets as preparation begins this summer and the bulk of the work will take place in the fall.

This is the same route the tri-athlon will use this coming weekend.

The Town of Gravenhurst, says in a release last week, that the infrastructure department will embark on the two community infrastructure improvement projects working with partnering contractors awarded to the tenders.

Beginning Monday July 9, Fidelity Engineering and Construction Inc. will begin the Greavette Street storm sewer improvement project, which will run until the end of the year and be completed in the early spring of 2019.

The town says existing sewers have reached end of life and will be upgraded to meet today’s needs and requirements. Greavette street and Brown street between Greavette and Sarah Street, will be closed to general

traffic, only open to local traffic. Emergency Services, garbage and recycling collections will continue uninterrupted on these identified routes.

Residents directly adjacent to the construction activity have been notified.

The reconstruction of the Greavette-Street storm-water collection and conveyance system has been a long standing critical capital initiative needed for the town and will be completed at a cost of $944,205.86.

In addition to this project,, the nearby Lookout Park playground expansion project on George Street, will begin work through ABC Recreation on Wednesday July 11

The $82,000 project, which take just over two weeks, is slated for completion and re-opening on Friday July 2.

Funding for this project has been generously provided by the Gravenhurst Lions Club. The project’s goal is to enhance the existing playground with many new accessible features and falls in line with the Infrastructure departments goal of making public spaces more accessible. The park will be temporarily closed from Wednesday July 11 to Friday July 27. Signage for both projects will be prominently displayed. The publics patience is appreciated while these improvements are being made in our community.
