Bracebridge man charged with multiple thefts in Orillia

ORILLIA A Bracebridge man has been arrested and charged in an eight-month crime spree here.

Police pulled over a 2015 white Kia with Alberta licence plates. In the trunk they found B.C. plates.

Provincial police arrested Jacob McCallen, 32, for several thefts.

On June 20, 2018, OPP officers in Orillia recognized a vehicle suspected to have been used in a rash of thefts in Central Ontario, between October 2017 and June 2018; including several in the Orillia area.

They stopped a 2015 white Kia Optima.

Officers investigated and formed grounds to arrest the driver for multiple thefts in the Orillia area.

McCallen is charged with the following offences which took place in the Orillia OPP detachment area:

Four counts of Theft Under $5,000 Contrary to Section 334(b) of the Criminal Code.

Four counts of Possession or Property Obtained by Crime Contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

The accused was operating a 2015 Kia Optima with an Alberta licence plate on the rear. Police also found in the trunk a British Columbia licence plate.

McClellen was released on a Promise to Appear for July 31, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia.
