Elderberries at their peak with Forces of Nature concerts

GRAVENHURST — Air, Fire, Water, Earth — those were the four elements and chapters the Elderberries Choir sang praise to tonight.

Elderberries director Louise Jardine had the choir at their peak Saturday night in the first of two weekend concerts at the legion.

The second of the two concerts is Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., also at the legion.

New music director Louise Jardine, and pianist Carolyn Grant, ran the 40-member choir through some challenging pieces that the veteran singers were able to pull off with ease.

They opened with “Walk in the Wind,” as their initial Air offering.

“Closer to the Flame,” was one of four songs under the category of Fire.

The second set (following an intermission and silent auction) began with audience participation.

Jardine had the audience of 70 mimicking wind, rain and thunder with their hands and feet.

That set the tempo for the third element, Rain, which included “I Dreamed of Rain.”

The final foursome dedicated to Earth, included “For the Beauty of the Earth,” “The New World,” “My Muskoka,” and concluded with “God Now in Peace.”

The Elderberries were at their vocal peak.

Catch them Sunday afternoon at 2 — rain or shine.
