Police haul out injured driver of stolen vehicle

GRAVENHURST — An injured Toronto driver in a stolen vehicle faces numerous charges after fleeing an accident on Hwy. 11 NB, just south of downtown Gravenhurst Saturday.

Witnesses said the driver of a vehicle in an accident Saturday fled and foot. But police found the injured man and hauled him out of the bush.

Provincial police say that on May 26, 2018, at 4:10 p.m. officers from the Bracebridge OPP were dispatched to a multiple vehicle collision.

Witnesses said that when the vehicles came to rest, one driver fled the scene on foot.

Officers arrived and determined that the suspect vehicle had been reported as stolen last Dec. 16 from York Region.

The OPP Canine Unit along with the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) were call in to conduct a thorough search of the area and located the suspect who had sustained an injury to his ankle in his attempts to flee from police.

Officers carried the suspect out of the woods and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Police have charged 43-year-old Aaron Thompson with the following offenses:

Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime CC354(1)(a)

Fail to Comply with Probation CC733.1(1)

Thompson was held in custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on June 8, 2018 for a bail hearing.
