Don’t let canvassers into your home: OPP

CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES — A scary scam scenario in which door canvassers get into your home has police sending out yet another alert.

A male gained entry after posing as a door-to-door salesperson.

Provincial police here are currently investigating thefts from homes in the area and are looking for the assistance of the public.

It’s been reported to police that a lone male person will attend the residence of an elderly person and tell them they are there to pave the driveway or to meet somebody for the sale of a product.

When the resident tells them they are at the wrong address they will ask a favour – use their phone or washroom and gain access to the residence. Once inside the residence the thief will steal cash, pursues, or other products. Often the resident doesn’t realize they been victimized.

Police are asking the public to be aware of this behaviour and to report any suspicious activities – persons or vehicles – to their area police service.

Anyone having information on this crime or any others is asked to contact the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Information can also be reported anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or by going to www.khcs.ca and submitting an anonymous tip online.
