Bracebridge ice fisherman, 78, drowns after sled hits open water
BRACEBRIDGE – A man out ice fishing Thursday night has died after his snowmobile went through open water.
Provincial police, Bracebridge Fire Department and Muskoka EMS were dispatched to attend Bowyers Beach in Bracebridge shortly after 8p.m. on Thursday March 15, regarding a man operating a snowmobile that had gone into open water. Witnesses reported seeing the man fishing nearby and after he packed his belongings, he drove away on his snowmobile and into open water.
The 78 year-old Bracebridge man was located in the water and rushed to hospital but in spite of life-saving efforts, did not survive.
