2 Bracebridge residents face drug charges

BRACEBRIDGE — Two Bracebridge residents will be in bail court here tomorrow morning after a drug raid today.

$2,000 in drugs, plus $1,500 in cash were seized in Wednesday’s drug raid in Bracebridge.

Deborah Ferguson, 60, and Richard McKenzie, 49, were arrested and charged Thursday.

Provincial police in Bracebridge say that on March 20, 2018, the Muskoka Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested two people for breaching conditions of their bail. Subsequently, the CSCU executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act warrant at a Manitoba Street address belonging to one accused.

They say that during the execution of this warrant, police seized more than $2,000 in controlled substances including cocaine, hydromorphone contin, cannabis marihuana, and cannabis resin. Police also seized approximately $1,500 in cash.

As a result of this investigation the following people have been charged:

Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – S. 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Possession of a Schedule II for the purpose of Trafficking – S. 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Possession of a Schedule II Substance – S. 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Hydromorphone – S. 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine – S. 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000 – S. 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada

Two count of Fail to Comply with Recognizance contrary to Section 145(3) of the Criminal Code of Canada

Richard McKenzie:

Possession of a Schedule I Substance – S. 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Two count of Fail to Comply with Recognizance contrary to Section 145(3) of the Criminal Code of Canada

The two accused were held in custody for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on March 21, 2018.
